Amy (Maltese, 6 Years old) is one of the 3 dogs rescued from the Namyangju puppy mill by our previous partner rescue group. Per our previous post, the rescue group handled all fees and we took care of their adoption. However, due to their medical conditions and inability to make it on a long flight, it’s taking forever to find them a home in Korea. Amy was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), which could progress to an untreatable condition if left unchecked. However, no surgical treatments were available. Our team in Korea intended to consult a cardiologist, but the decision wasn’t up to us as her medical care was handled by the Korean rescue group’s affiliated veterinarian.
In May, the rescue group proposed either transferring the three Maltese to them or taking over their care and medical expenses. Knowing clearly they cannot make the flight here, how can they only think about finding a home ASAP? We chose to shoulder their care rather than handing them over.
Before parting with our previous group, we consulted cardiologists for Amy's condition as her primary doctor could only offer basic care. The unanimous decision was immediate surgery to save her life. Fortunately, after ending our previous partnership, we managed to arrange Amy's surgery. We chose between a conventional procedure and a costlier, yet safer, ACDO method. Amy's surgery was successful and she stopped her diuretics immediately. With ongoing care, she may be on heart medication within a year or so, leading a healthy life, which is our ultimate goal.
Amy recently had a post-op check and we got an okay to travel to Los Angeles and not depend on any medication. We’re looking for a pet family who will welcome her with lots of love and attention. She is great with other fur babies and kids. However, we do prefer a household with older kids as we don’t want to overwhelm her. Should you be interested in adopting her, please fill out our adoption application.
PLEASE NOTE: All of our recently rescued dogs are currently fostered in Seoul, Korea by our volunteers. Our adoption process may be stricter than any other rescue organization as these rescued dogs are traveling over 5500 miles to be with their new permanent family.
You must be at least 25 years old to be considered an overseas adopter. For serious inquiries only. Please note that we monitor all pets after adoption. We prefer adopters who are active on any of the social media accounts. Thank you!
