ADOPTION UPDATES

The following canines were adopted and preparing for their upcoming flights to Los Angeles (LAX).

TAN

Tan was rescued from a shelter located in Cheonan, Korea. This shelter once was a high kill shelter and thanks to dedicated volunteers, this shelter has now turned into a no kill shelter. However, adoption inquiries as this shelter is almost zero, as it’s located in a remote location.

Tan was admitted at this shelter as a puppy with fractured. He found a forever home here in Los Angeles and will be arriving soon to meet his new pet parents. Adoption process for Tan took the longest as he still had issues with one of his legs.

HANMO

Hanmo is one of the three puppies we rescued from an illegal dog farm in Paju, Korea. Hanmo is one of the four lucky ones to be alive. He found a forever home in Los Angeles, where he will be spending quality time with his pet parents. His parents are ready to welcome their fur baby from Korea.

ARRIVALS

TOM

Tom was rescued from a high kill shelter located in a tiny island called, Geojae in Republic of Korea. He was rescued along with Teddy and Moo on the day they were scheduled to be euthanized. Thanks to our partner group called, Horuragi in Daegu, Korea, they were brought to safety. Due to recent changes with oversea adoption process in the United States, it took awhile for us to prepare proper documents to be submitted to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (USCB). However, it was all well worth it.

Tom now has a new name of Oji and he is indeed living a fabulous life with his mom and dad. Special thanks to our adopters for helping us save Oji’s precious life.

UPDATE ON YANGSAN DOG FARM RESCUE

Thank you so much for your continuous support in fight against dog meat trade in Korea and helping us find forever homes for these precious lives. Due to the unexpected recent rescue of Yangsan dog farm, there has been delays in responding back to potential adopters.

Still, zero help from rescue organizations world wide. It is only the small local rescue organizations helping us find forever homes for these fur babies. Presently, there are zero space in no kill shelters and sanctuaries in Korea to take all of them. Hence, the camping outside the National Assembly in Seoul, Korea. If city and/or government cannot help? Who else can?

For updates on Yangsan dogs, please follow our Joey & Bailey’s Instagram and/or Facebook page. There, we will provide the latest update on Yangsan dogs.

Sincerely,

Hannah K.

UPDATE ON YANGSAN DOG FARM RESCUE DAY 3-4

Total number of individual volunteers participating are now at 88. Thank you! Still, no words from any international rescue organizations offering their help! If we’re receiving “special gift” from local dog meat association members, I am pretty sure word is out world wide regarding this rescue.

Korean Dog Meat Association decided to stop by and leave a banner that reads, “Korean Jindo Meat for Sale”. These are not humans, but evils. They have no souls. All of them have a look of a potential serial killers. In order to make sure all of our rescued dogs are safe, we have volunteers watching them around the clock. No dogs are left unattended. Their safety and health is our number one priority despite the current situation. Our volunteers are working hard to make sure all 64 are comfortable.

We are estimating 70% of canines are infected with heartworm and need of treatments. We are building temporary kennel space for our fur babies so that they can run around freely. We are turning this public park into a private dog park until some group or local government officials step up! It looks like we are alone with this rescue. This rescue is now OUR RESCUE!

Thank you so much for joining us. Many Korean citizens heard our cry and donated supplies. People world wide sent us so much love and support by donating via PayPal and GoFundMe. Together, let’s make sure rescued canines are healthy and find forever homes! #grouphug

Love,

Annie, Ivy, and Hannah

UPDATE ON YANGSAN DOG FARM DAY 2

We will be using the public park in front of The National Assembly in Seoul, Korea as our temporary ground for all rescued dogs. So far, none of the local Korean rescue organizations have reached out to help out. Also, non of the large international rescue organizations reached out to us offering their support. It is the small rescue organizations in Nevada, Arizona, and Washington that is showing their full support.

It is still just us, group of individuals taking care of this dogs. Dogs in critical conditions were rushed to the local vets for full medical examinations. 7 large breeds rushed to the vet, 4 dogs are infected with heartworm and will need further treatments. Some of the puppies were also rushed to the vets, as some showed severe respiratory problems and could barely sit down. Due to limited space, we have no choice but to wait until previous dogs taken to the vets are all discharged.

60 warmhearted individuals just like you and I gathered in Seoul, rotating to take care of these dogs. Many residents of Seoul offered their help after reading a news article regarding this rescue. All of them witness their friends being tortured and slaughtered for human consumption. Just imagine how many dogs lost their lives at this evil farm in Yangsan? We found many tools (including bent aluminum baseball bats) used to torture these dogs. Just imagine the pain and suffering all of them faced. How can we ignore them? How can we leave them behind?

Through this opportunity, we would like to make following statements world wide:

  1. Spread awareness about dog meat trade in Korea

  2. Ethical fundraising and rescuing

  3. Proper care of rescued dogs

We see many med to large rescue organizations world wide asking for funds in an effort to end animal cruelty. Where are you now? It is us individuals from all around the world (U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, etc…) supporting towards this rescue. I ask you again, where are you now? Are you coming to help us?

Out of desperation, we started a GoFundMe page to help cover all expenses toward this rescue. Every dollar will be spent strictly on this rescue. (This excludes, gas, water, and food for all volunteers participating). Within less than 2 days, we’ve raised over $12K by 29 donors on our GoFundMe page. We thank each and everyone of you for helping these 64 dogs. Per my previous posting, we don’t know the exact amount we will need until we receive all medical records of 64 dogs. We are praying that all of them have minor medical issues. Once again, thank you so much for your love and support. Together, let’s all make sure all 64 for are healthy and find their forever homes. Thank you!!!

Sincerely,

Hannah K.

UPDATE ON YANGSAN DOG FARM DAY 1

Out of desperation, we started a GoFundMe page last minute to cover rescue fees. We believe in ethical fundraising and every $1 we spent towards this rescue, we will post upon receipt of all receipts and invoices. We would like to take this opportunity to prove to you all our ethical practice in fundraising and rescuing of dog meat trade dogs. It is too much for us individuals to handle.

This has now become public’s rescue. We are asking any citizens of Republic of Korea to help us and started an open forum for everyone to participate. Presently, there are approximately 50 volunteers helping with this rescue. These warmhearted individuals are stopping by to donate all necessary items for rescued dogs. This has now become ALL OF OUR RESCUE.

Total head count for dogs rescued from this horrific dog farm is 64 (52 adult canines and 12 puppies). We don’t know the exact medical conditions all all dogs presently but we do notice severe skin diseases and respiratory problems with some dogs. We’re hoping none of the dogs have heartworms and other diseases such as Parvo, corona, and distemper. Otherwise, we’re looking at additional $10k-$30k. Worst case scenario, we’re looking at $1000 per dog for Heartworm treatments, testings, spay/neuter, and full vaccinations

We would like to reach out to large rescue organizations in the U.S. to help us with this rescue. If you know of any, please tag them here and send them an email please. More the merrier. They have no problem reaching out to us whenever they have a question or need help on their end. One group based in Los Angeles committed to taking 10 rescued dogs, then backed out. Another group had no problem stealing dogs from Hanam to raise funds on their end. Where are you now when we need you the most? If we can get a commitment of 2 dogs per local rescue groups in the U.S., we will forever be grateful.

If you’re with a rescue group in the U.S. or Canada and would like to help us find forever homes for these fur babies, please email at: adopt@joeyandbailey.org. We welcome experienced personal adopters as well. Thank you so much! <3

SHUTDOWN OF DOG FARM IN YANGSAN

I apologize for delay in responding to all your emails and messages. We had to plan a last minute rescue of 52 dogs trapped inside a dog farm located in Yangsan, Korea.

All 52 dogs were completely removed from the dog farm in Yangsan, Korea. To our surprise, there were additional 12 puppies at this farm. Annie and her team only had few days to plan for their rescue. Luckily, they found couple of vets nearby Seoul. Reality is, there are no vets that can take all 64 dogs. Annie anticipated doing this rescue without support from any other rescue organizations. Even if she reached out for help, no one will response. Sad truth.

These dogs were fed left over rice and side dishes. Inside their food containers were filled with maggots that look like noodles. Just imagine people eating dog meats that are filled with maggots inside their bodies. Do they still think their skin will produce extra collagen and boost testosterone for men? Whoever came up with this ridiculous health claim, they don’t deserve to live.

Three Korean-American/Canadians (an artsy New Yorker Ivy, an aggressive Vancouver girl, Annie, and a hot-tempered Cali girl Hannah) got together in an effort to end dog meat trade in Korea. Annie and myself caused many damages too Ivy. Hence, we purposely did not reach out to her. But, because she loves us so much, she will be helping us managing the funds.

Out of desperation, we decided to start a GoFundMe page at the very last minute. We aired few live stream casts to let people know our next move. Within less than 21 hours, we were able to raise close to $9000 USD. Total expenses spent for this rescue is approximately $13,000 USD, excluding the $20,000, a warmhearted professor paid for release of dogs.

Current expense excludes all medical expenses that will be applied for this rescue. Majority of the dogs are suffering from severe skin diseases such as mange. We are hoping none of them are diagnosed with other diseases such as Heartworm. Otherwise, we are looking at additional $10,000 - $20,000 USD. All of us believe in transparency in fundraising. We will post every receipts and invoices on both GoFundMe page and on all of our social media accounts.

We would like to set a good example to other rescue organizations in an attempt to shut down a farm, every expenses should be shared with donors to make sure all of your contributions were spent solely on dogs. All the volunteers participated paid for their own gas, food, and water. This is how it should be. No other operational expense should be spent with your hard earned money.

We would like to thank each and every one of you who donated towards Yangsan rescue. 17 warmhearted individuals donated towards this rescue in less than a day. We just can’t thank you enough.

Special thanks to Vienn and her husband, Salman. This beautiful couple donated $5000 towards this rescue. Vienn’s father-in-law also heard of this rescue and Mr. Al Rashid donated $2500. I am the last person to get emotional but as soon as I saw contributed amounts from Al Rashid family, I broke down in tears, tears of joy indeed. We are forever grateful for them, thank you so much for always thinking of us.

Annie and her team will hold a press conference scheduled today to spread words on dog meat trade. This needs to end immediately. If Taiwan banned dog meat trade, then Korea can ban dog meat trade.

Sincerely,

Hannah K.

UPDATE ON TAN

Tan received all necessary vaccines required by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Center for Disease and Prevention (CDCP). He will be ready for departure 3rd week of May.

As mentioned on previous postings, he was admitted to Cheonan shelter with all four legs fractured. We suspect an abuse from his original owner. Considering what he’s gone through, he is super friendly and loves every dog. He’s a lover, not a fighter lol.

Thanks to the warmhearted individuals, he was able to receive surgery on all four legs. However, we noticed one of the back leg (left) is slightly bent. He shows zero discomfort and has no issues walking or running.

We apologize for delay in responding to potential adopters interested in Tan. We wanted to make sure he was in good condition. We will begin calling approved adopters starting tomorrow. Thank you!
