RESCUE UPDATE

We just rescued a beautiful Golden Retriever. Meet Adaline. She is about a year old. We will not be posting a separate adoption profile for Adaline for about a week, as we don’t have enough manpower to review a high volume of adoption applications.

We prefer potential adopters that are experienced with Golden Retrievers. Should you be interested, please submit our online adoption application. Please note, we screen check every applicant. For more information on our adoption process, please visit our FAQS page. Thank you for understanding and good luck!

STORY OF SIMBA

Simba was rescued from a dog meat farm in Paju, Korea when he was only 3 months old. He witnessed many dogs being tortured and slaughtered. It took him a while to forget about the dog meat farm. Simba received professional training for the past two years as Simba had a difficult time trusting people.

Per our vet, Simba is one of few puppies with an excellent memory. He remembered other dogs being tortured and slaughtered. Our rescuer wanted to make sure he was ready to meet his new family.

Two years later, he found a loving home in Los Angeles. Please check out Simba’s journey.

UPDATE ON SIHEUNG DOG MEAT FARM RESCUE

On January 15, 2020, we started a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe Site for our friends Annie and Ivy to help raise funds to take care of medical expenses for 65 dogs rescued from a horrific dog meat farm located in Siheung, Korea. Siheung is a city located in Gyeonggi Province, with a population of 472,162 (2017) not too far from the capital city of Seoul.

Back in December, a total of 65 dogs and 15 goats were rescued from this horrific dog meat farm. On average, the medical expenses spent on each rescued dog from either a dog meat farm or a slaughterhouse is anywhere between $1000-$3000. Many are either infected with heart-worm disease and/or distemper. These dogs were fed nothing but human leftovers mixed with previously slaughtered dogs’ body parts.

Initially, Annie and Ivy were backed by a large rescue organization located in Seoul, Korea. However, the rescue organization decided not to help these dogs anymore. However, they pledged to take care of 5 dogs at their organization’s shelter. One day Annie and Ivy received a call from the organization’s shelter, asking them to take their dogs as they could not take care of them any longer. When the girls arrived at their shelter, they were in disbelief.

They removed the dogs out from a major Korean rescue group's shelter. Two dogs, Tommy and Donna were in horrible shape. They were suffering from severe skin infection and was transferred immediately to a nearby vet. Tommy was shaved, given a medicated bath and antibacterial Convenia vaccine. Donna was emaciated and had a gaping infected wound under her foreleg. She used to weigh over 40 lbs but now, she weighed 28 lbs.

They needed to take care of 70 dogs in boarding facilities that cost over $12,000 month plus medical expenses. We made a decision to help them out by starting a GoFundMe page on January 15, 2020. We recently posted a ledger sheet on the GoFundMe page but didn’t have room for us to post all invoices from the vets. Attached hereto are ledger sheets and invoices for your review. As we are firm believers in transparency, we would like to share it with you. All the pet hospitals who took in Siheung dogs gave us a special discount and asked us to blur out the name of the hospital for privacy purposes.

KakaoTalk_Photo_2020-07-11-00-49-30.jpeg

Total expense including food, supplies, and medical expenses was $76,348.41. As of today, we raised $19,762.00. Thanks to few donors, we were able to and continue to pay for their boarding facilities. However, it’s still on the negative side of $2000 per month as many dogs are traumatized as they witnessed their friends and families being tortured and slaughtered in front of their eyes.

Please find the copies of invoices and receipts for medical expenses.

PET TRAVEL UPDATE

Last week, total of 12 dogs arrived safely here in Los Angeles. It was indeed the most hectic week ever. Our team in Los Angeles slept for less an 1-2 hours to make sure all pet travels went smoothly. Many of our adopters waited more than 4 months. As many of you know, due to the pandemic, all flight volunteers canceled their upcoming trip. Two of our rescuers in Korea decided to purchase the tickets on their own so that many of our rescued dogs can meet their new families.

In order to make sure all 12 dogs can enter on the same week, we divided into 3 teams:

July 1. 2020 - Gamja (Cairn Terrier Mix), Jubei (Shiba Inu Mix), and Fletcher (Jindo Mix) traveled to Los Angeles via cargo.

July 3, 2020 - Milk (Pomeranian), Peanut (Maltese), and Bailey (Jindo Mix) traveled via cargo.

July 3, 2020 - Autumn (Poodle), Spring (Maltese), Amy (Kokoni Terrier Mix), Baxter (Poodle), Sophia (Jindo Mix), and Simba (Labrador Retriever Mix) traveled via passenger flight with two of our rescuers.

MORE UPDATES COMING SOON

Hello everyone!

Hope all of you are doing well. We will be updating our site next week with more dogs available for adoption. These dogs are currently on kill list and are scheduled to be euthanized if they don’t find qualified adopters in Korea. Reality is, these dogs have zero chance of being adopted in Korea. We’ve talked to shelter administrators and promised to find them a forever home here in California.

Please consider becoming a permanent loving pet parents for these fur babies and help us save precious lives.

TRANSPARENT RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS

We’d like to formerly introduce you to a wonderful (trust worthy) organization in Korea. we A.C.T. @we.a.c.t Their mission is to end dog meat trade in Korea by shutting down slaughterhouses and dog meat farms in Korea. These amazing group of individuals got together in an effort to end dog meat trade.

There are many rescue organizations who claim to shut down slaughterhouses and dog meat farms in Korea. The past year, not many rescue organizations were active. Yet, they continued raising funds to help them shut down new dog meat farms. You’ll see a post floating around social media asking us to donate. Many of us tend to check our social media at home, right before we go to bed. You can’t help but think about those innocent lives waiting to be tortured and slaughtered for human consumption. So what do we do? We donate hoping that the particular rescue organization will rescue the dogs soon.

One large rescue organization was recently exposed of euthanizing rescue dogs in Korea. Furthermore, one individual who is popular in the rescue world was caught euthanizing dogs rescued from the dog meat farm. They were against using donated funds to cover medical expense for dogs. We’re in disbelief there are couple of rescue organizations in the U.S. continue to support them knowing clearly of their wrongdoings.

This is the main reason why we support this group in Korea. This organization is ran by individuals (volunteers) and call themselves “members”. All the members work full time and manage to operate the organization together. Presently, this is the ONLY group we support in a fight against dog meat trade in Korea. All donations are spent toward rescued dogs ONLY and none are spent on unnecessary operational expenses. If you’re looking for an ethical, transparent, and trust-worthy rescue organization in a fight against dog meat trade in Korea, please support this group. They need your help!

Need tax exempt for your donations? Women United for Animal Welfare @wufaw_official is a reputable organization operated by group of wonderful women. They’re actively involved in legislation and supporting animals in need. This group believes in nothing but transparency and are also well known in the rescue world.

PET TRAVEL FOR NEWLY ADOPTED DOGS

Hello everyone!

We wanted to remind everyone once again how pet travel works. Per USDA and AWA, adoption is considered as commercial, we must followed the regulations set forth by the government.

Adopted pet must be in good health, need to be properly vaccines per CDC, and at least 6 months of age. Furthermore, specific paperwork must accompany the dog on its trip with a flight volunteer. (1) Health Certificate and Rabies Vaccination Certificate and (2) An import permit issued by APHIS, an agency part of USDA.

In the past, puppy at least 4 months old were able to enter. However, the regulations have changed and became stricter for pet travel (commercial purpose). As many of you know, our group of individuals (activists) are known to shaming individuals and groups for violating and taking advantage of the rescue world. We have many wonderful (ethical and transparent) rescue organizations from both the U.S. and Korea who support us for exposing unethical individuals and groups.

One of the adopters assumed we made up these regulations and decided to do some research on their own. Furthermore, an individual who “referred” these adopters was actively getting involved in the adoption process by providing inaccurate and misleading information. Whenever rescuers rescue a dog, they come up with guesstimated age. This does not guarantee their actual age. To make sure the ages are accurate, rescuers in Korea must double check with their vets for accuracy.

Per vet, this puppy is only 104 days. Rescuers assumed this puppy was older. This is why we have licensed vets. Rescuers are not experts in determining the age of the pets. This unnecessary drama began when the referral’s mother was planning a trip to LA this month. Since the referral’s mother is not the actual adopter, it is mandatory for us to apply for a permit for the puppy’s travel. Which means the puppy DOES NOT quality to travel to the states.

This referral decided to contact one of our rescuers who happened to rescuer her puppy. Giving ultimatums to any one of us leads to nothing. According to this referral, the dog would lose its chance with a great family. More like THEY lost a chance in adopting this beautiful puppy!

P.S.

We’ve saved every communication with these people for evidence.

All adopted pets traveling with flight volunteers must be at least 6 months old.
